Accuracy, limits and your privacy
On this page
AI answers are written by an automated model. They can be helpful and still be wrong, and to write them 4Search sends your question to an outside AI provider. This page explains both, in plain words; the AI Transparency Notice has the formal version and names the provider.
#What AI answers can get wrong
- Made-up details. A model can state a figure, a date or a quotation that no source supports, in the same confident tone as a true one.
- Old information. The model learned from text up to a certain date. AI Mode reads current news for each question, but where the articles say nothing, the model falls back on what it already knew.
- Misread sources. An answer can cite an article for something the article does not quite say.
- One reading of your question. An ambiguous question gets the most likely meaning, which may not be yours.
- Not advice. AI answers are not medical, legal, financial, tax, safety or other professional advice. Do not base a decision about your health, money, rights or safety on them alone.
Every AI answer carries a reminder: "AI Mode can make mistakes, so check important facts and the sources it cites", and under the overview, "AI-generated overview; it may be incomplete or incorrect".
#What happens to your question
So: do not type passwords, account numbers, health details or anything else you would not want to leave your browser.
#Limits you may meet
- 10 messages per AI Mode chat, and up to 2,000 characters per message.
- If you send messages very quickly, AI Mode asks you to wait a moment.
- Occasionally 4Search asks you to confirm you are human with a press-and-hold button before AI answers work.
#Report a wrong or harmful answer
Use Contact in the Menu to tell 4Search about an answer that is inaccurate, unsafe or misleading. Include your question, the date, and a description or a screenshot, without personal details you do not need to share. See Contact support.
#Common questions
Which AI company writes the answers?
The AI Transparency Notice names the provider the site is using.
Does 4Search use my questions to decide what I see?
No. The results are the same with AI answers on or off, and 4Search does not use AI answers to make decisions about you.
Is my AI Mode chat saved on 4Search?
The conversation itself lives in your browser tab and disappears when you close it. 4Search may keep a record of each message you sent, as described above.
Can I use AI answers and still keep my searches private?
Your searches reach 4Search either way, as any search does. With AI answers off, nothing about them goes to the AI provider.
